Beaches and islands
Korčula
The nearest beaches to the old town are on the headland around the Hotel Marko Polo, though they're crowded, rocky and uncomfortable. The shingle beach in front of the Bon Repos hotel and Kalac campsite is much nicer, and there's a sandy beach a short bus ride away in Lumbarda. Alternatively, take a water taxi from the harbour on the eastern side of town on the way to the bus station to one of the Skoji islands just offshore. The largest and nearest is Badija, where you can either disembark at the Hotel Badoa — from which tracks lead to secluded beaches and a couple of elementary snack bars — or continue onwards to the naturist part of the island round the corner. The long shingle beaches of Orebić are also only a fifteen-minute ferry ride away; boats run roughly hourly from the pier opposite the Hotel Korčula throughout the day.
