Eating and drinking
Istria

There's a healthy supply of serviceable restaurants in the centre of Pula, although - as so often in Croatia - the really outstanding eating places are in the suburbs. For snacks and supplies,

the covered market and the surrounding cafes on Narodni trg, about 100m east of the Arch of the Sergians, are the best place for buying provisions or picking up sandwiches and pastries. Just north of the Forum, the Pekarna Jozef at Kandlerova 17 is a good place to stock up on bread and cakes.

Although the alfresco cafes and ice-cream parlours around the Forum provide plenty of opportunities for daytime drinking, central Pula doesn't really lend itself to a night-time bar-crawl. Most of the characterfial hostelries popular with Puleiani are spread throughout the city rather than concentrated in one central promenading area, and you'll have to be prepared to venture beyond the tourist-trodden areas in order to enjoy the city at its best.
