 Madan's main cultural attractions are on its southern side, in the suburbs of Zvori and Meje, about twenty minutes' walk from the centre or a short ride on bus #12 from Trg republike. Heading west along Setaliite Ivana Meštrovića brings you first to the Museum of Croatian Archeological Monuments (Muzej hrvatskih arheoloških spomenika;Tues-Sat 9am-4pm, Sun 9am-noon), housed in an oversized concrete edifice with huge open-plan halls and piped-in organ muzak. The museum makes a concerted attempt to remind people of Sp" s medieval Croatian herrtage, a phase of local History that's often forgotten in the enthusiasm for all things connected with Diocletian. Displays include a motley collection of jewellery, weapons and fragmentary reconstructions of chancel screens and ciboria (the canopies built over a church's main altar) from ninth- and tenth-century Croatian churches.
